I can’t really follow this rule in Charleston, as most streets are one lane, but I will say this and doors are the top things I keep an eye out for while biking.
Motorists making a right turn is one of the most frequent types of collisions for cyclists. While riding on a shoulder is fine for a straightaway, it’s no place to be when at an intersection. Remember: motorists aren’t looking for traffic on the shoulder. *BE* part of the normal flow of traffic. Take the freakin’ lane!
I have to do this twice on my commute to work. Scares the shit out of me every time.
