I recently was at Bicycle Habitat in Soho to cop a new tire and had the privilege to meet Hal.  Dude is cool as shit, and knows his way around a bicycle.  Check out this vimeo of him strolling through Soho critiquing various lock-jobs.

Moral of the story - make your bike less attractive to steal than the next bike.

Go Go Gadget Spoke Wrench!!

So, I was riding down Broadway yesterday and noticed a very mondo wobble in my back wheel  (fuck you, cobblestones!). I pulled up and started to look for the nearest shop, when I remembered the new toy I picked up last week.

even has a bottle opener, no big deal....

The term “must-have” gets thrown around pretty egregiously these days, but this little fellow is a certifiably legit must-have.

Granted, the spoke wrench isn’t as nimble as a dedicated tool you’d have in your box, but the Alien II was perfectly serviceable for a quick true-up. I was back up and riding smooth in 5 minutes or so.  While its main use is going to be for field repairs, a novice mechanic can use it for most any basic repairs, without breaking the bank for a complete tool set.  At ~$30, the Alien II is a complete no-brainer.

Final Conclusion:  Cop that!!
